A Little Wine to Go with That Turkey?

Thanksgiving weekend is coming and EVERYBODY has a full plate. Thursday, of course, is Turkey Day. Friday is Black Friday (shopping anyone?). Saturday is the home opener for the Tallmadge Lady Devils basketball season...but what about Sunday. Other than the Browns heading to Cincinnati to get smashed in the pie hole by the Bengals, there's nothing going on, right?

WRONG!!!

I've been invited to kick off the holiday season at Viking Vineyards on Sunday, November 29th, from 5-7 pm. You read that right -- I'll be playing a Sunday evening gig! I'll be playing and singing the songs you love and maybe, just maybe, I'll add in some seasonal favorites!

Viking Vineyards is known for its great homemade wines so it'll be a blast! Plus, they have beer and other mixed drinks available in the beautiful Lake View Hospitality Room.

Here's the information:

Sunday, November 29
5-7 pm
Viking Vineyards
268 Old Forge Rd.,

Party in Brimfield to Celebrate Tallmadge Levy Success!

Now that Tallmadge voters (well, slightly more than half of us) have agreed that teachers, kids and other things relating to school are important, it's time to do the only sensible thing: PARTY! This Friday night join your friends and fellow former highschoolers at Rico's in Brimfield for the Biggest Live Entertainment Festravaganza on the corner of 43 and 18 that night!

That's right, I'll be singing and playing the songs you know and love (well, may have heard somewhere in your alcohol and whatever-fueled past) and the fabulous Rico's waitresses will be providing all the great food and liquid refreshment you want!

1332 Tallmadge Rd. (the corner of Rt. 18 and 43)

Following the Tallmadge Blue Devils' game against the Copley Indians this Friday night, come to Delanies Grille for some great food, fantastic waitresses, the coldest adult beverages allowed by law and live musical entertainment by the Original Doug Kaufman Band.

Prove you were at the game and there will be no cover charge!**

If it's dry we'll be outside on the patio. A firepit will keep the chill away (although you may see Nick in his Snuggie!). If it's wet we'll be inside the bar. How To Sing The Blues

by Lame Ugly Charlie Washington

1. Most Blues begin, "Woke up this morning."
2. "I got a good woman" is a bad way to begin the Blues, unless you stick something nasty in the next line, like " I got a good woman, with the meanest face in town."
3. The Blues is simple. After you get the first line right, repeat it. Then find something that rhymes... sort of: "Got a good woman, with the meanest face in town. Got teeth like Margaret Thatcher, and she weigh 500 pound."
4. The Blues is not about choice. You stuck in a ditch; ain't no way out.
5. Blues cars: Chevys and Cadillacs and broken-down trucks.
Blues don't travel in Volvos, BMWs, or SUV's. Most Blues transportation is a Greyhound bus or a southbound train. Walkin' plays a major part in the blues lifestyle. So does fixin' to die.
6. Teenagers can't sing the Blues. They ain't fixin' to die
yet. Adults sing the Blues. In Blues, " adulthood" means being old enough to get the electric chair if you shoot a man in Memphis.
7. Blues can take place in New York City. But not in Hawaii or any place in Canada. Chicago, St. Louis, and Kansas City are still the best places to have the Blues. You cannot have the blues in any place that don't get rain.
8. A man with male pattern baldness ain't the blues. A woman with male pattern baldness is. Breaking your leg 'cause you were skiing is not the blues. Breaking your leg 'cause an alligator be chomping on it is.
9. You can't have no Blues in an office or shopping mall. The lighting is wrong. Go outside to the parking lot or sit by the dumpster.

10. Good places for the Blues:
a. highway
b. jailhouse
c. empty bed
d. the bottom of a whiskey glass

Bad places:
a. Nordstrom's
b. Gallery openings
c. Ivy League institutions
d. Golf courses

11. You can't sing the blues while wearing a suit, 'less it's the only thing you own, and you slept in it last night.

12. Do you have the right to sing the Blues?
Yes, if:
a. you're older than dirt
b. you're blind
c. you shot a man in Memphis
d. you can't be satisfied
No, if:
a. you have all your teeth
b. you were once blind but now can see
c. you have a retirement plan or trust fund
d. the man in Memphis lived.

13. Blues is not a matter of color. It's a matter of bad luck. Tiger Woods cannot sing the blues. Gary Coleman could. Ugly white people also got a leg up on the blues.

14. If you ask for water and Baby give you gasoline, it's the Blues.

Other acceptable Blues beverages are:
a. cheap wine
b. whiskey or bourbon
c. muddy water
d. black coffee

The following are NOT Blues beverages:
a. mixed drinks
b. kosher wine
c. Snapple
d. sparkling water

15. If it occurs in a cheap motel or a shotgun shack, it's a Blues death. Stabbed in the back by a jealous lover is another Blues way to die. So is the electric chair, substance abuse, and dying lonely on a broken down cot. You can't have a Blues death if you die during a tennis match or getting liposuction.

16. Some Blues names for women:
a. Sadie
b. Big Mama
c. Bessie
d. Fat River Dumpling

17. Some Blues names for men:
a. Willie
b. Little Willie
c. Big Willie
d. Medium Willie
e. Leroy

18. People with names like Sierra, Sequoia, Auburn, and Rainbow can't sing the Blues no matter how many men they shoot in Memphis.

19. Make your own Blues name (starter kit):
a. name of physical infirmity (Blind, Cripple, Lame, etc.)
b. uncomplimentary adjective (Fat, Old, Ugly, Bloated, etc.)
d. (optional) acceptable first name (Willie, Willie, Willie,
etc.)
c. last name of President (Jefferson, Johnson, Fillmore, etc.)
For example, Blind Fatty Joe Jefferson, or Cripple Crusty
Fillmore, etc.

20. I don't care how tragic your life: you own a computer, you cannot sing the blues. You best destroy that heathen contraption. Fire, a spilled bottle of Mad Dog, or get out a shotgun. Maybe your big woman just done sat on it. I don't care.

And THAT'S how you sing the blues.

Homecoming Is All About the Memories

After the Homecoming Game at Rossiaky Stadium, join your alumni friends at Delanie's to reminisce about your Members Only Jackets, Mullets and Leg Warmers. It's a Homecoming Festravaganza at Delanie's Grill. Due to potentially soggy weather, the Captain will be left guarding the patio while we sing, drink and generally act ridiculous inside the bar.

Remember, I'll be playing after every home football game.

Live at the Corkscrew in Medina -- TONIGHT

Tonight Tonight Tonight!

In the immortal words of John Hiatt "Thank God the Tiki Bar's Still Open." What? You don't know John Hiatt? Then come out to the Corkscrew Saloon in Medina on Wednesday, Sept. 9 and you'll hear songs by him and other musical geniuses you should be aware of. But don't worry – these aren't the musical geniuses you'll fall asleep to. You'll sing, drink, talk with friends and have a generally great time hearing songs you kind of think you sort of almost know most of the words to.

It's Island Night, so there will be all sorts of great drinks and fabulous food provided by Ryan Marino and his staff of experts and the songs of the islands (South Bass included) provided by me.

7:30-11:30 on the patio

Friday Night Lights

Two words: Friday Nights. Three More: Blue Devils Football. Five words that mean great entertainment value. Want four more? Delanie's Patio and ME.

After every Tallmadge Blue Devil home varsity football game this season, I'll be playing at Delanie's Grille just off the Tallmadge Circle. Delanie's has put in a cool new patio, and you and I get to christen it this weekend! While I'm not sure Nick wants you smashing champagne bottles all over the place as if it were the Queen Mary or something, I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you spill a few Budweisers as you sing along with the songs you know the words to.

For more information:

Here's the schedule:

Friday, August 28: Blue Devils vs. Nordonia Knights
Friday, September 25: Blue Devils vs vs. Barberton Magics
Friday, October 2: Blue Devils vs vs. Cloverleaf Colts
Friday, October 16: Blue Devils vs vs. Copley Indians
Friday, October 23: Blue Devils vs. Revere Minutemen

Game time is 7:00 for all home games at Rossiaky Stadium. I'll be playing at 10:00 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. at Delanie's. Weather permitting on the patio, inside in the back room, hopefully, if it rains.

Come out for great food, great drinks, great conversation after a great football game and me playing and singing the songs to celebrate a win or mourn a defeat.

Wow It's Hot

Summer's here finally...and school's only a few weeks away. Sorry to you teachers, but those of us with regular jobs can't help but feel a little satisfaction at this time of year.

Still looking to add a few gigs to the list for the rest of summer, into fall and going into the Christmas season.

No Ricos this Week-o

Sadly (for me, maybe not for anyone else), I will not be playing at Rico's in Brimfield this week. I'm trying to put together some alternate locations for upcoming weekends, but as of now, if you want live music on Saturday night, I'd suggest heading to Kent for Blues Fest (www.kentbluesfest.com). Although technically it can't be annual until AFTER the first year, it does look like a fine lineup of Jazz and Blues veterans.

If you're into that stuff. Personally, I like the songs I sorta know some of the words to and can sing part of after having 2 or 3 beers and 25 chicken wings, but that's just me.

Escape To the Medina Islands On Weds., July 15

For one night only – Wednesday, July 15 – I'll be playing at the historic Corkscrew Saloon in Medina. This beautiful restored Victorian Mansion has great food, a beautiful bar and attentive staff – so what am I doing there? Don't worry – I'll be playing on the patio!

It's Island Night at the Corkscrew every Wednesday, so there will be all sorts of great drinks and fabulous food provided by Ryan Marino and his staff of experts. This week, the songs of the islands (South Bass included) will be provided by me. If you can't get to Put-In-Bay, this might be a fun Hump Day substitute!

Another Saturday Night

And hopefully you "ain't got nobody" (yeah, believe me...that strange double-negative means I hope you have somebody) to go to Rico's with! It'll be fun, whether you're their with a crowd, your significant other or just by yourself looking to enjoy a beautiful spring evening.

I start at 8:00 and -- if the weather is decent -- I'll be out on the patio. Can't ask for better than that!

As you can see, the new Cavs management team is more excited about Rico's than the fact they'll be battling in Orlando for another shot at the NBA Finals.

2009-05-04

Good times, my friends, good times.

Here's the schedule so far for this summer (all of these shows start at 8:00 pm at Rico's in Brimfield...great food, great beer, so so entertainment).

Friday, May 8
Saturday, May 30
Saturday, June 13
Saturday, July 11
Saturday, July 25
Saturday, August 22

New this year: official "DK - I'm with the Band" T-shirts! Only $10 each! Be the first in your house to have one!

2009-05-01

Hey, Culture Freaks!

Just a quick note to let you all know I'll be kicking off Summer at Rico's Restaurant and Sports Bar in Brimfield on Saturday, May 2. Since the first "official" DK night out is NEXT week (Friday the 8th), I'm using this as an unofficial warm up gig.

Still, the great music you love/like/have never heard before will be issuing forth from my vocal cords and guitar-playing fingers so there will be plenty of opportunities to snap your fingers and raise a glass in celebration of May 2nd...Bing Crosby's birthday!

If you're not familiar with Rico's, you should be. It's the old Rudy's Beer Garden at the corner of 43 and 18, across the street from the gas station. Once the weather warms up, the patio will be open, but for now we'll be inside in the bar.

Come early for dinner and stay all night for the fun. As always, I'll be playing songs you love until everyone gets tired and goes home.

The food and appetizers are great at this place and the selection of beer and drinks is outstanding. I hope you'll come out and kick off the party season in fine fashion!
